Microsoft Office 2010 Technology Guarantee: FAQ

About the Office 2010 Technology Guarantee

ShowWhat is the Microsoft Office 2010 Technology Guarantee?

The Microsoft Office 2010 Technology Guarantee (“Tech Guarantee”) is a program designed to ensure that customers who purchase Office 2007 in the months before Office 2010 is available can receive an upgrade to Office 2010. Customers who purchase and activate a qualifying Office 2007 product (with or without a new PC) between March 5, 2010, and September 30, 2010, may be eligible to upgrade their qualifying Office 2007 product to a corresponding Office 2010 product when it is available.

The Office 2010 Tech Guarantee eligibility verification and ordering process takes place online so Internet access is required in order to verify eligibility and to request the 2010 upgrade. Customers who choose to download the upgrade will not be charged. Customers may also be able to order a disc for a fee.

ShowHow does the Microsoft Office 2010 Tech Guarantee work?

You must first purchase a qualifying Office 2007 product (with or without a new PC) between March 5, 2010, and September 30, 2010, from Microsoft or an authorized reseller. Once you’ve purchased Office 2007, you must activate the qualifying Office 2007 product by September 30, 2010. You should also keep your Office 2007 dated sales receipt as proof of purchase until you request and redeem your upgrade, as this may also be requested by Microsoft to confirm your eligibility.

When Office 2010 is available in your language and country, you can return to www.office.com/techg to request and redeem your Office 2010 Tech Guarantee upgrade. You will be required to confirm your date of purchase, enter your Office 2007 Product ID, and create a Windows Live ID if you do not already have one. Additional information may be required. Microsoft’s online validation system will confirm whether you are eligible for the upgrade and determine the corresponding Office 2010 product.

ShowHow can I tell if my computer can run Office 2010?

Review the Office 2010 system requirements to determine if your PC has the necessary requirements.

ShowDoes Office 2010 work with Windows Vista and Windows XP?

Yes. Office 2010 is compatible with Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Windows 7. See the Office 2010 system requirements for additional information.

ShowWill a 64-bit version of the Office 2010 product be available?

Yes. 64-bit Office 2010 product upgrades are available. However we strongly recommend most users install 32-bit version of Office 2010 on both 32 and 64-bit Operating Systems because currently many common add-ins for Office will not function in the 64-bit edition. The 64-bit installation of Microsoft Office 2010 products is available for users who commonly use very large documents or data set and need Excel 2010 programs to access greater than 2GB of memory. There may be technical issues with the 64-bit version and in order to install a 64-bit version of Office 2010 product users must have a 64-bit supported operating system on their PC.
